Dr Janet Barrett

 

Janet Revell Barrett is an Associate Professor at the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University, where her research interests include curriculum studies, interdisciplinary approaches in music education, and professional development in music teacher education. She is a co-author of several books, including Sound Ways of Knowing: Music in the Interdisciplinary Curriculum; Looking In On Music Teaching; Constructing a Personal Orientation to Music Teaching and the editor of Music Education at a Crossroads: Realizing the Goal of Music Education for All. She teaches courses in secondary music education, curriculum development, qualitative research methods, and interdisciplinary perspectives on music education. Barrett is currently chair of the Society for Music Teacher Education.

 

Professional development was offered to music teachers during Lumen by visiting professors from Northwestern University.

Dr Maud Hickey

Maud Hickey is Associate Professor of Music Education at the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University. Her research focus is children's compositions and improvisations, and the use of technology to facilitate these processes. Her most recent work involves composition and improvisation for at-risk students. She is the author of chapters in several books as well as articles in Music Educators Journal, General Music Today,Journal of Research in Music Education, and Research Studies in Music Education. Hickey is currently vice president of the International Society for Improvised Music and secretary for the College Music Society.
